A U.S. Border Patrol agent was assaulted with a concrete block while responding to an alarm detecting an illegal alien crossing the border. The agent was not seriously injured in the attack.

The Border Patrol agent, assigned to the Calexico Station (El Centro Sector) in southern California, responded to an alarm of an illegal border crossing near downtown Calexico. The illegal border crossing was detected by the Remove Video Surveillance System operators who monitor the border fence. The agent responded to the alarm and was attacked by the illegal alien, according to information obtained from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials by Breitbart Texas.

As the agent attempted to apprehend the suspected illegal alien, the agent was struck by a concrete block. The block, approximately four inches in diameter, was thrown across the border fence by “an unknown assailant.” The agent sustained soft tissue contusions in the shoulder area from being struck by the concrete block. Had the assailant’s aim been more accurate, the agent could have received serious head or facial injuries. The agent was checked out but declined medical attention following the attack.

The attack occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday night, officials stated.

Border Patrol agents are frequently assaulted by rock throwers from Mexico. This is the seventh attack this month on agents in the El Centro Sector. Breitbart Texas has reported extensively on the frequent attacks on these agents.

“I would like to commend the bravery and quick thinking that our agents display, not only under normal circumstances but also in dangerous situations such as this one,” Patrol Agent in Charge of the Calexico Station, Carlos E. Briones, said in a written statement.
