Mexican health officials confirmed the first case of community-spread Coronavirus. To date, the nation has 16 confirmed cases and is reviewing 82 more.

The announcement came via televised news conference where the head of Mexico’s Epidemiology Department, Jose Luis Alamia, revealed the patient is a woman in Queretaro. She is related to another patient who previously traveled to Europe.

While Alamia did not go into details, Breitbart Texas reported on the initial case in Queretaro where a 43-year-old Mexican national who resides in Spain had traveled home and began to show symptoms upon arrival. That patient remains under quarantine.

According to Alamia, the case is the first of its kind where the virus spread to relatives. Due to the average size of families in that country, similar cases could spread between three to five individuals each.

As news of the pandemic continues to spread, health officials are asking the public to avoid sharing unconfirmed information on social media and rely on legitimate sources to avoid panic. In recent days, messaging apps have circulated numerous rumors and erroneous information.
