Mexican health officials confirmed yet another spike in their novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) stats with another 163 new cases in a 24-hour span for a total of 1,378. Fatalities also rose to 37.

Mexican federal health officials released the new statistics on Wednesday night through a streamed news conference where they revealed a total of 3,827 patients undergoing testing. Since the start of the pandemic, 7,073 tested negative.

Health officials say that of the confirmed cases, 46 percent were released from medical care after their conditions improved but remain under observation. Fifty-one percent are in isolation either at home or hospital for the most serious cases. The remaining 3 percent are deceased.

The brunt of the pandemic continues to be centered around central Mexico with 296 cases in the nation’s capital and another 157 cases in the surrounding area. The western state of Jalisco shows 99 cases followed by Puebla with 97.

Health officials claim that in comparison to other countries, the pandemic in Mexico began in late February, approximately one month behind the U.S. and Europe.
