Napolitano on Trump’s Cohen Defense: ‘No Rational Person’ Could Claim Exoneration

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Shepard Smith Reporting,” network legal analyst Andrew Napolitano said President Donald Trump’s claim of being exonerated as the details of prosecutor’s case against Trump personal lawyer Michael Cohen emerge was not “rational.”

Napolitano said prosecutors are claiming Trump’s “felony is paying Michael Cohen to commit a felony.”

He added, “You pay your lawyer to commit a crime you are presumed to intend for him to commit it.”

Smith asked, “If you’re the president’s lawyers, how are you taking this?”

Napolitano said, “You are taking it with great gravity. The President says he’s been exonerated. I’ve got to believe he’s saying that for political purposes. No rational person could construe this as an exoneration unless they’re escaping reality. He’s in the crosshairs now of two prosecutors.”
