Are women held to unrealistic standards, as opposed to men, regarding shaving all their body hair?

Is feminine body hair scary and unattractive?

Liverpool University student Yasmin Gasimova certainly does not think so, as she recently described the liberation of having a little extra wool in her “pits” and on her face and legs.

While it’s tolerable for stars like Miley Cyrus to flaunt overgrown dyed pink armpit hair, Yasmin claims other women are unfairly scrutinized and judged, and only seen as feminine if they are completely hairless.

To protest, Yasmin has decided to embrace her own hairiness and keeps it real…hairy.

Student Yasmin Gasimova has revealed a secret in a blog post that she doesn't shave her body hair

“Being hairy isn’t scary. In a society where women are expected to shave, I’m not ashamed to admit I don’t,” Yasmin recently wrote in her student newspaper.

“I might trim my pubes if I’m going on holiday, but catch me on a normal day when my armpits are bushy and my legs are furry, and you might be surprised,” she continued.

Because shaving is a huge inconvenience for her, the young woman insists bushy armpits and upper lip hair are the fast track route to feeling completely liberated as a female.

“I still unfortunately prefer the inconvenience of shaving to the inevitable dirty looks and rejection,” she said.

Pubic hair aside, Yasmin believes we should stop holding women to a higher standard of cleanliness than men because there is “nothing dirty or unclean about body hair.”

While she did mention that she shaves out of “absolute necessity” for vacations and one night stands, Yasmin thinks life would be a great deal more simple to just let it grow.

That might be a tough sell.

What do you think? Should women #freethepit once and for all?
