Galactic Cap Condom Could Save California's Porn Industry

An innovative condom called the Galactic Cap may be the solution for the pornography industry to combat proposed California legislation requiring performers to wear condoms during sex.

Last week, Breitbart News reported that a delegation of porn stars known as the Free Speech Coalition are lobbying lawmakers in Sacramento that the mandate for porn industry actors to wear condoms during sex is intrusive and may be a violation of their First Amendment rights. However, what may be at the heart of their protestation is that pornography consumers are turned off by viewing actors wearing condoms.

The LA Weekly reported on Tuesday that Charles Powell’s new prophylactic device fits only on the very tip of the penis and does not obscure what porn viewers like to watch. The Weekly observed that it sounds like a challenge to the law of physics, but according to Charles, it works just fine. Powell explained that his friend’s death from HIV inspired him to invent the condom, which he has been working on for over two years.

Significantly, part of the two-piece prophylactic can be put on hours or even days before sex and allows for urination and showering. The second piece is a small cap that attaches by adhesive and is applied right before sexual activity. Although, the product does not have FDA approval, the Torrance inventor thinks it’s a game changer. Currently, he is undercapitalized to move the device into mass production, so Powell plans to take the device to crowdfunding site Indiegogo.

Already the adult industry has taken an interest in the new condom, and a few have already ponied up some investment capital. “If you use this you might overcome the problem of using a condom on camera,” he said. Powell asserts that a lot of people don’t like looking at traditional condoms, but boasts that his condom is “transparent, on the head, so it doesn’t look so gross… I don’t want to position this product as an adult toy,” Charles asserts, “It’s serious.”
