i24 News reports: Municipal workers in central Israel on Sunday sprayed pesticides in the vicinity of the home of a person found to be carrying the dangerous Zika virus, local media reported.

The operation covered some 4,000 square meters around the patient’s home in the city of Rishon LeZion, approximately 18 kilometers south of Tel Aviv.

Israel’s Health Ministry said that the measure was necessary in order to prevent the disease from spreading to the patient’s neighbors, according to the Ynet news site.

No information was given about the patient. So far, there have been at least 10 confirmed cases of Zika in Israel contracted outside the country.

Israel’s Ministry of Health has been monitoring the Zika outbreak and said it has been following recommendations from medical professionals and disease specialists.
