Flags Burned at London Protest Against US

Some 150 Muslims gathered outside the US embassy in London on Friday and burned US and Israeli flags in protest against a film that mocks Islam, an AFP photographer said.

Demonstrators chanted “Allahu Akbar” (God is greatest) and waved placards reading “Islam will destroy the falsehood” at the protest against the film, which has sparked violent protests across the Muslim world.

Around 10 members of the far-right English Defence League — which opposes the influence of Islam in Britain — also attended the heavily-policed and peaceful protest outside the central London embassy.

One person was arrested, police said.

Several people were killed on Friday in protests that have spread across Muslim countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia in reaction to the film, which ridicules the Prophet Mohammed.

Thousands of protesters stormed the British and German embassies in Sudan in anger against the film, reportedly made by a Coptic Christian living in California.

Friday’s protests follow the death of the US ambassador to Libya and three other US officials in an attack on the consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi.
