VIDEO: Taliban Capture British Dog of War

LONDON, United Kingdom–A video has emerged that purports to show the Taliban in Afghanistan in possession of a captured military dog, used by British special forces to sniff out explosives or drugs.

The video, below, shows various Taliban operatives parading the British dog of war around, as well as captured weapons.

Initial reports claim that the dog was with American forces, though certain identifiers make it more likely that the dog was working with the British Special Air Service (SAS), an elite regiment of the British army that has seen action in both Iraq and Afghanistan during the past decade.

The Taliban fighters claim that the dog “was named after a colonel” and that “it had a torch on it, and its neck wore a GPS.” A spokesman for the Taliban claimed that the dog was captured during a raid in Laghman province, East of Kabul, on December 23rd, 2013.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said, “We are not commenting on the nationality of the dog, and we never comment on special forces,” but a spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul confirmed that a dog had gone missing during a mission in December.
