Belgian authorities proceeded with an anti-terrorist operation in Verviers, 77 miles east of Brussels, against a cell that planned a terrorist attack yesterday night local time. Police killed two people and arrested one person. Other operations took place in Anderlecht, Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, and Brussels.

Citizen journalists, bystanders, and locals happening upon the scenes posted pictures and videos on social media outlets.

“The mayor of #Verviers wants to strengthen the protection of its police #Verviers”

“Some people want to go out but can not #Verviers”

The operation took place one week after radical Islamists slaughtered 20 people in France over three days. Belgian authorities said the cells are not connected and their investigations occurred before the French attacks.
