Former Iranian IRGC commander-in-chief Mohsen Rezaei reportedly warned President Donald Trump, “there are more than 50,000 American troops” within Iran’s firing range who they could attack in response to Trump’s threats to the regime.

“Mr. Trump, you be cautious,” Rezaei tweeted on Monday, hours after Trump warned Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani of “consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before.” Trump further noted, “We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death.”

According to Iran’s state-run Mehr News agency, Rezaei said, “You need to be cautious when Iran’s sword is hanging over the heads of more than fifty thousand troops but you are acting crazily.”

Analysts have expressed fear that Iran may target American military personnel serving in the Middle East.

On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also shot back against President Trump, saying, “COLOR US UNIMPRESSED: The world heard even harsher bluster a few months ago”:

On Sunday evening, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted that 2019 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Iranian regime’s seizure of power from Iran’s last Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, lamenting that the so-called “fruits from that Revolution have been bitter.”

“Regime mismanagement has led to the rial plummeting in value,” Pompeo said. “A third of Iranian youth are unemployed and a third of Iranians live below the poverty line. The bitter irony of the economic situation in Iran is that the regime lines its own pockets while its people cry out for jobs, reform, and opportunity.”

On Sunday, Rezaei also tweeted, “Trump has become the symbol of international hatred from China to Europe and Canada and Mexico. The path to curbing Trump is a revolutionary and decisive encounter with him. Mr. Rouhani’s recent position is grateful.”
