Watch live: President Trump speaks at UN religious freedom event

Sept. 23 (UPI) — President Donald Trump will lead the discussion about religious freedom Monday morning at the United Nations General Assembly.

The event starts at 11:30 a.m. EDT.

The speech gives Trump a chance to connect with his evangelical Christian base. He’s also skipping the U.N. Climate Action Summit. The climate change event has generated protests worldwide urging governments to take action against global warming.

“This is the first time any leader of a nation has addressed the U.N. on religious persecution,” Pastor Robert Jeffress told Fox & Friends. “A third of the world is living under religious persecution … and it is a remarkable thing that this president would skip a U.N. climate change summit on an imaginary problem to address the very real problem of global persecution of believers.”
