Teen Asks Joe Biden to Prom; VP Sends Her a Corsage

That lover of the ladies, Vice President Joe Biden, now has a high school senior in Connecticut on his list.

Talia Maselli was so impressed with Biden’s sense of humor that last fall she invited him to her prom in the spring. The night before the prom, Talia Maselli got a corsage from Biden and an invitation to visit him at the White House with a note saying, “I am flattered, but my schedule will not permit me to be in Connecticut on Friday evening. But I hope you will accept this corsage and enjoy your prom as much as I did mine.”

The senior at Newington High School said of Biden, “Joe Biden makes me laugh. He just cracks me up.” She had said in her handwritten note to Biden, “I am inviting you so far in advance because I’m sure many 17-year-old girls send you prom invitations, and I had to beat them to it. I could only tolerate a high school dance if I was to be escorted by the most delightful man in America.”

Maselli threatened Biden that if he didn’t accept, she might ask Speaker of the House John Boehner instead, and added, “And we can’t have that now, can we?”

Maselli avers she is interested in politics, although she is planning to study theater sets and lighting at Central Connecticut State University in the fall.

Maselli received a corsage of white roses, baby’s breath, and red, white, and blue ribbons, but wound up not going to the prom: “But if he had said yes, I would have gone. I was never really looking forward to going to prom. I’m looking forward to going to Washington, D.C.”

Maselli said her grandmother told her that when the flowers wilt she should press them in a book.
