A New Jersey man who racked up 92 arrests throughout his life has been sentenced to 50 years behind bars for killing his son’s mother.

A judge sentenced Rashon Causey, 40, to multiple decades behind bars Friday for stabbing Shanai Marshall, 37, to death in her home in November 2016, NJ.com reported.

Prosecutors said during Causey’s trial that he went to Marshall’s house November 14, 2016, around midnight November 14, broke into her house, and stabbed her multiple times in the head and torso, the Burlington County Times reports.

A jury found Causey guilty of murder, burglary, and weapons charges in October.

“Given this defendant’s enormous criminal history and the violent way in which he killed the mother of his child, it is hard to imagine a defendant more deserving of the life sentence the state sought here,” Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a statement.

“However, the court’s sentence of 50 years makes it likely that he will never experience freedom again, and that will hopefully afford some degree of comfort to Shanai’s loved ones,” he added.

The state offered Causey a plea deal of 38 years in prison with eligibility for parole after 85 percent of his sentence is served if he pleaded guilty.

Causey’s attorney, however, told the Burlington County Times that his client turned down the deal because he wanted “his day in court.”

The prosecutor’s office said that Causey must serve 42 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
