In what might be the first time in the history of the NFL, a fan inked a tattoo of his favorite team’s owner on his arm.
Jack Meredith, the general manager for a car dealership in upstate New York and a season ticket holder for the Buffalo Bills, emblazoned the image of the team’s late owner Ralph Wilson Jr. on his right arm as a tribute to Wilson who passed away in March at the age of 95.
Wilson, an NFL Hall of Famer, owned the team for the entirety of its history until his death. Though Wilson’s team won two AFL championships in the mid-1960s, the Bills, despite winning four straight AFC championships in the early 1990s, have never won a Super Bowl. The stadium bearing the late owner’s name has come under fire as dated, sparking rumors that the team may relocate when its lease runs out should new owners not win a new tax-funded home.
According to ESPN, Meredith has one other tattoo. On his left arm he has the Buffalo Bills logo permanently inscribed. “Some people think I’m crazy,” Meredith commented. “I don’t care. It’s my arm.”
Not surprisingly, on the tattoo horizon for the 32-year-old sports fan will be an image Buffalo Bills quarterback legend Jim Kelly, currently undergoing a battle with cancer.
