Earlier this month, four U.S. Special Forces members were killed in an ambush in Niger. The soldiers were part of a group conducting a search for a high-value target with terrorist affiliations. One of the soldiers killed in the ambush was Sergeant La David Johnson of Miami, who leaves behind two children with a third on the way.
To provide for the education of Johnson’s children, a gofundme account was established, that, as of this writing on Tuesday morning, had amassed $712,466 in donations. On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they too would donate $30,000 to the fund.
This move by the Dolphins is a class act, and comes at a very good time for a league which has obviously taken a hit for allowing protests that are disrespectful to veterans. No other political mention of any controversy surrounding the anthem, phone calls to widows, or a particular congresswoman wearing pink cowboy hats, needs to be made here.
The Dolphins did the right thing by supporting Johnson’s family, we need more stories like this, give them credit.
