For a time CNN’s Piers Morgan was able to boost his ratings some through the shameless exploitation of the children murdered in the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre. But like the slow-motion train wreck he is, people can only stare at Morgan for so long before they get bored and move along. Ratings-wise, Morgan is a proven loser, and now it looks as though his demagoguery proved to be nothing more than a sugar high:

The February 28th episode of Piers Morgan Tonight … suffered a yearly low in the key 25-54 demographic with only 87,000 viewers. …

Piers Morgan Tonight also had the lowest demo in its time slot and was even beat by HLN’s Dr. Drew (with 208,000).

It’s important to point out that while Morgan’s ratings were up, they were only up when compared to his colleagues on CNN. For a time, Morgan was on top at a network on the bottom. Whoo-hoo!

But now that the train wreck is over and the viewing audience is left only with the thoroughly unlikable Piers Morgan being the thoroughly unlikable Piers Morgan, he doesn’t even have that to brag about.

CNN Chief Jeff Zucker needs to hire some grown-ups.
