Russell Simmons Approves of Biden's 'Chains' Remark

Defending the current administration is getting tougher and tougher for left-leaning celebrities. It often means endorsing pretzel-like logic, the kind that only makes matters worse.

So when Vice President Joe Biden teed up an outrageous comment to a group full of black residents – that Republicans were going to put people back in chains – administration apologist Russell Simmons rushed into action.

The hip hop mogul penned an essay for The Daily Beast defending Biden’s comments. His reasons why will make you smack your forehead in disbelief.

The greatest cause of the destruction of the fabric of the black community in the past forty years is drug legislation that targets and imprisons those who live in under-served communities. The consequences of these draconian laws are that it takes diseased people, locks them up for long periods of time, educates them in violent criminal behavior and dumps them back into the community. The money for this operation is obviously funded by the “good old boys” who run Wall Street….

If Republicans really want to know how to help black people, then end the war on drugs, because that really is a war against our own people. Changing those policies will start to free “the chains.” Instead, these and other biased policies supported by the Republican Party disempower blacks and all other minorities in various ways.

Memo to Simmons. If drugs are illegal, then stop using them. And it’s not as if the Democratic party is itching to reduce the drug war on a grand scale. Bill Maher, a strident Obama apologist, has called the president a “dismal failure and a liar” regarding his drug policies. And can anyone trust Obama when he promises to attack the drug war in his second term? He’s a serial promise breaker, and it’s an election year.

Heck, Obama hasn’t even taken action on legalizing marijuana during his first term even though states like Colorado currently allow for medical marijuana dispensaries.
