An Alabama middle school teacher allegedly had sex with a high school senior just one month after divorcing her husband.

Taylor Brooks Boyles, 27, of Moulton, turned herself into authorities after she was charged with a felony count of engaging in sexual activity with a student under the age of 19, the Daily Mail reported.

If convicted, Boyles could spend up to 10 years in prison.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell said investigators received a tip that Boyles had been engaging in inappropriate sexual activity with an 18-year-old student at Lawrence County High School.

Superintendent Jon Bret Smith told the Moulton Advertiser that Boyles remains on paid leave pending the school board’s decision on her status as a teacher at the school and the investigation’s outcome.

Smith said the alleged sex acts occurred off campus between Boyles and the high school senior, and no students on any Lawrence County school campus were in danger.

Boyles got hired as a full-time fifth-grade mathematics and social studies teacher in the Lawrence County School System in 2015. She graduated in 2012 with her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama.

Boyles married in May 2015, but filed for divorce in February 2017, writing in her complaint that “this marriage was a mistake” and “the love had gone out of” her relationship with her husband, the Decatur Daily reported.

Her divorce was approved April 11, a little over a month before her arrest.

Boyles was released from Lawrence County Jail on $10,000 bond.

There have been multiple reports of teachers getting arrested for inappropriate sexual contact with students over the past two months.

On Thursday, a Florida Chemistry teacher was arrested after she allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old student in her car.

On April 20, an Arizona teacher was arrested for allegedly performing sex acts over video chat with a 13-year-old.
