Off-Duty Texas Deputy Accused of Shooting Female Driver Who Honked At Him

HOUSTON, Texas — An off-duty Texas deputy reportedly shot a woman in the head during what appeared to be a road rage incident.

The deputy, Kenneth Caplan, has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to the incident, which occurred in Houston, according to NBC2 Houston.

Local reports state that Caplan got mad after the 20-year-old woman honked her horn at him. He then drove up next to her, rolled down his window, and shot at her.  Luckily for the woman, the bullet only grazed her head.

“All of a sudden I’m driving, and this guy cuts me off,” the victim told local media outlet KHOU. “He was about to hit me. I switched to the other lane, I got in front of him and I cut him off. I guess that pissed him off. He went like that and he just fired at me. And then all of sudden I heard a ring in my ear.”

Caplan immediately attempted to flee the scene but was eventually apprehended.

The woman was reportedly hospitalized with injuries, but nothing life-threatening.

She told NBC2, “I honestly got a taste of death. My heart was slowing down and I couldn’t really breathe. He was aiming at me and I thought he was going to cuss me out. It didn’t register that I was, you know, going to get shot. The blood was in between my nails, just crazy blood, and all over my cellphone, just covered.”
