ROME, Sept. 3 (UPI) — Eight Lynx Mk21A helicopters of the Brazilian Navy are to receive electronic warfare systems from Selex ES as part of their midlife upgrade.
Under a contract from AgustaWestland, which is performing the scheduled upgrade, Selex ES will provide its Sage electronic support measure as well as its defensive aid suite controller and a third-party counter-measure dispensing system.
The award to Selex ES carries a value of more than $160 million.
The Sage system is for RF intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It will give the Brazilian helicopters a wideband radar warning capability for protection by alerting the DAS, which in turn cues counter-measures to be used.
Sage also provides a narrowband, fine angle of arrival and geo-location capability that is primarily used for surveillance and intelligence purposes.
Selex ES has in the past provided the Sage system for helicopters of South Korea, Indonesia and Britain.
A delivery schedule for the systems was not disclosed.
