Poll: 80 Percent of Voters in Competitive States Favor Restrictions on Abortion

A new Politico poll shows that 80 percent of likely voters in competitive states favor some restrictions on abortion.

According to the poll, 35 percent favor parental notification and a cut-off date for late term abortions, 34 percent call for a “nearly total ban” on abortion with exceptions of rape and incest, and 11 percent favor a ban on abortion in all circumstances.

Only 19 percent of the respondents agreed to the right to an abortion with no restrictions, and one percent of the poll’s respondents declined to answer.

Seventy percent of respondents in the poll said that abortion was important in determining which candidate they would support in the November election, and only 29 percent indicated that it was not important.

According to Politico, the poll was taken of congressional districts and states where the 2014 elections would actually be decided.
