GOP Representative Pulls Down Anti-Cop Painting, Returns to Democrat

Painting of Cops as Animals

On Friday, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA-50) pulled from the wall an anti-cop painting that Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO-1) chose to display in the U.S. Capitol complex.

The painting depicts cops as animals with tusks, and Breitbart News reported that Clay selected it as a fitting representation of the August 9, 2014, shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Fox News reports that Hunter pulled the painting down on Friday and put it in Clay’s office. Hunter said, “I was angry. I’ve seen the press [reporting on this painting] for about a week or so. … I’m in the Marine Corps. If you want it done, just call us.”

The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Sergeants Benevolent Association of New York, and the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose Police Officers Associations had all asked House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) to have the painting removed. The police groups released a statement, which said, “This false narrative portrays law enforcement professionals as posing a danger to the very communities we serve. That is untrue and this ‘art’ reinforces this false narrative and is disrespectful on so many levels.”

After leaving the painting in Representative Clay’s office, Representative Hunter said, “Lacy can put it back up, I guess, if he wants to … but I’m allowed to take it down.”
