VA Resident ‘Concerned My Friends Might Become Alcoholics Post-Quarantine’

A Virginia resident attending the shutdown protest in Richmond on Wednesday told Breitbart News that he fears his friends will become alcoholics due to consistently “overdrinking” during the state’s shutdown, adding that it could have devastating long-lasting effects.

Nathan Hamm told Breitbart News that many of his friends are “overdrinking” as a result of the shutdowns, and he worries it is something that will carry beyond the pandemic.

“I’ve noticed that a lot with my friends,” he said, adding “they always say if you do something for 21 days, it’s going to create a habit.”

“And I’m just concerned a lot of them might be alcoholics after this experience, so I’m not really sure how this brought them together, made them safe,” he said, explaining that it will have more long-lasting effects than “this whole hysteria.”

Hamm said his friends are drinking “every single say” for “breakfast, lunch, and dinner” and said alcohol is beginning to be a necessity, just for them to wake up.

“It’s very hard to see, because it really affects your quality of life,” he said, explaining that he used to be an alcoholic and knows firsthand the negative impact it can have on an individual’s health.

Excessive drinking, he said, will have a greater effect than this “temporary situation.”

“I just don’t want to see that happen to my friends,” he added.
