PHOTO: Man's Christmas Display Honors 'Great Example' Charlie Kirk

A Minnesota homeowner designed and built a beautiful Christmas tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Jim Schermerhorn’s display is simple but it holds a powerful meaning, Valley News Live reported Monday.

“My thought process with it — a lot of people said it was political — to me it’s more about his message. I think he was a great example; he combated with words instead of violence,” he told the outlet.

His Christmas display features the words “WE ARE CHARLIE KIRK” in lights on his roof:

Kirk was assassinated on September 10 during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. He was a devout Christian, a conservative activist, and a free speech advocate. His tragic death shook the entire world.

When explaining how he came up with the idea to honor Kirk, Schermerhorn said, “Really I just used some scrap plywood from the shop. A little help from the internet on how to draw the letters the correct size, $50 in lights from Amazon overnight and two days later I had a sign on the roof.”

He noted the reactions have been mostly positive.

Following Kirk’s assassination, Rev. Franklin Graham paid tribute to Kirk, stating, “This young man loved his country and invested his time and energy in trying to make it the best it could be,” per Breitbart News.

“He stood boldly for conservative values and defended free speech for all of us. Most importantly, Charlie loved the Lord Jesus Christ. Pray for his wife Erika, their two young children, and all of their family,” Graham said, adding, “It’s in these moments of darkness that we need to stand on the Scripture that Erika shared on social media, ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble’ (Psalm 46:1).”

Kirk’s faith in Jesus Christ allowed him to “face every threat with courage because he didn’t fear death,” his pastor and friend, Rob McCoy, said after he was murdered, Breitbart News reported.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Turning Point Action shared a Christmas message Kirk posted in December 2019.

“Today and tomorrow we celebrate God coming in human form down from the heavens to save us. He humbled himself down to our sinner world to redeem us. He was killed despite doing nothing wrong, a perfect life,” Kirk continued.

He then declared, “He rose again. He lives. Jesus is king of the world. Celebrate this gift.”
