Shake It Off: Minute Maid Park Schedules Taylor Swift Concert During Astros Playoff Run

As though a “1989” tour in 2015 didn’t confuse enough, Minute Maid Park has scheduled a Taylor Swift concert on October 13.

That’s right. Park officials scheduled a concert right in the midst of the Astros’s planned playoff run.

Houston’s baseball team, of course, has suffered through such recent indignities as a push from the National to the American League, letting the draft’s first pick Brady Aiken walk, and watching hackers post its information on potential trades go online for all the world–including the trade bait on their roster–to see. An Astros game broadcast in April of 2014 garnered a 0.0 Nielsen rating. Dr. Phil, Curious George, and the Spanish language broadcast of the 700 Club, like the American League West, apparently plays as stiff competition.

But hope springs eternal–even in late fall. The Astros haven’t boasted a winning season since 2008. But they won 70 games in 2014 after three seasons of winning fiftysomething games. Few expect them to challenge for the American League West title or sneak into a wildcard spot. None of those who do work in events scheduling for the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.
