Joe Biden on Deflate-Gate: ‘I Like a Softer Ball’

Deflate-gate hasn’t quite hit the White House. But the resident of the United States Naval Observatory has an opinion about it.

“Well, I’ll tell you what,” Joe Biden told CBS This Morning. “Having been a receiver, I like a softer ball. That’s all I can tell you.”

The New England Patriots stand accused of letting air out of balls in the AFC Championship Game. The NFL found that 11 of 12 balls supplied by the Patriots failed to meet inflation requirements. Tom Brady calls the allegations “ridiculous” and his go-to guy Rob Gronkowski joked that his patented spikes must have forced the air out of the balls.

The Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 to earn their sixth Super Bowl berth of the Brady-Belichick era. They take on the Seattle Seahawks on February 1 in Glendale, Arizona.

Like Bill Belichick, Joe Biden has faced charges of pigskin perfidiousness. Biden has boasted of playing the game at the University of Delaware. No record of him competing at anything beyond an intramural level exists. In 2012, he told an audience at Ohio University that his last visit to campus came during his playing days and almost resulted in an arrest when he meandered into a women’s dormitory. He told a University of South Carolina audience last year, “I played football at Delaware”

The vice president insists that, like the Patriots, he played a fearsome game on the gridiron. Biden told CBS, “I wasn’t bad at it.”
