Orlando PD: Shooter Had an ‘Allegiance’ to the Islamic State

Monday while addressing the media, Orlando Police Chief John Mina was asked if there was any truth to witness reporters that shooter Omar Mateen was celebrating and laughing on the phone while he was shooting.

He acknowledged there was an allegiance to the Islamic State, but no laughing during the police’s negotiations with Mateen.

“There — there was an allegiance to the Islamic State,” Mina said. “There was no laughing as far as our negotiations were involved.”
