Suspect Shot After Victim Forced into Closet with Gun

HOUSTON, May 15 (UPI) —

Houston police said a home invasion suspect ended up hospitalized when he and his cohorts forced a resident into the closet where he kept his gun.

Police said three men kicked in the front door of the home around 2 p.m. Tuesday and attacked a resident who lives in the house with his parents, the Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday.

The man waited in the closet until he thought the men had left and emerged armed with his gun, said Sgt. Jerri Brandon of the Houston Police Department. The man encountered one of the suspects downstairs and the pair exchanged gunfire.

The resident was uninjured, but the suspect was wounded in the shoulder and leg. The other two suspects fled in a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Police said the resident told them he did not recognize any of the suspects.

The wounded suspect, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital.
