Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch dead at 47

NEW YORK, May 4 (UPI) — Adam Yauch, a founding member of the Brooklyn hip-hop group Beastie Boys, has died, TMZ reported Friday. He was 47.

The cause of his death was not immediately released, but the celebrity news Web site noted Yauch was treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009 and has been battling the disease since.

Yauch, who was known professionally as MCA, co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with fellow rappers Mike D and Ad Rock. The Grammy Award-winning group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month, but Yauch was too ill to attend.
