On July 23 New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV) will be holding a march to protest CroffFit Games’ “lethal” Glock giveway.

Breitbart News previously reported that CrossFit Games director Dave Castro is giving Glocks as prizes at the games. He said Glock offered the handguns “and he gladly excepted.” Now NYAGV is marching to show their disapproval, and they will be joined by Gays Against Guns and other groups.

The Long Island Exchange reports that the march will be held July 23 and will begin at the New York Public Library. Gays Against Guns co-founder Kevin Hertzog made clear his hope that even if Castro refuses to drop the Glocks, the march might cause Reebok and ESPN to cut their ties with the games.

Hertzog said:

Saturday, we want to make sure that everyone going in or out of the big Reebok Crossfit knows they’re part of a group that is fetishizing an instrument of death. If Crossfit won’t #DropTheGlock, Reebok and ESPN should #DropCrossfit. How desperate are they that they would stay tied to a death promotion?

This opposition to Glocks is strange, considering the fact that the vast majority of high-profile shootings in America occur in places where one or two concealed permit holders with Glocks could vastly reduce the number of casualties if not prevent the attack altogether. For example, the attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando was an attack on a gun-free zone. Might not the severity of that attack have been greatly reduced if law-abiding citizens had been allowed to carry a firearm for self-defense and shoot back, in a manner prescribed by the Pink Pistols?

The NYAGV’s opposition to the Glock giveaway is easier to understand, albeit no more logical. NYAGV’s Leah Gunn Barrett said, “I thought Crossfit was about fitness and health, not instruments of death. With 33,000 Americans killed and 84,000 maimed yearly from gun violence, does Dave Castro even have a conscience?”

It was Barrett who opposed allowing women to be armed on college campuses for self-defense in 2015 by intimating that women are too weak to have guns. She said, “Women are not physically powerful like men are. A gun could easily be turned on the woman, and it is frequently.”

Glocks are perfect for target shooting, concealed carry, home-defense, and even hunting in some applications. Their dependability is unquestioned.

As of now, Castro is standing his ground and will be giving the guns as prizes once the games are underway.
