Eastern Conference coach Erik Spoelstra named Chris Bosh, who plays for him on the Miami Heat, as a replacement starter for injured Boston guard Rajon Rondo in Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game.
Spoelstra tapped the forward to join teammates LeBron James and Dwyane Wade from the reigning NBA championship squad among the East starters, who also include Boston big man Kevin Garnett and New York forward Carmelo Anthony.
“I figured we would try to bring our ‘position-less’ philosophy to the East for All-Star weekend,” Spoelstra said.
Rondo, who like the other starters was selected in fan voting, is recovering from season-ending surgery on his right knee after suffering an injury last month in a loss at Atlanta.
The Western Conference lineup for the annual showdown of elite NBA talent includes Los Angeles Lakers stars Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Clippers stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City.
