The Met Office has predicted more unseasonable weather with heavy snowfall and rainfall expected across the country on Friday and over the weekend.
The forecaster issued five amber warnings for snowfall while a clean-up operation was underway in Cornwall after widespread flooding on Thursday.
Floods were reported around Newlyn and Penzance in the county’s west, and also in Mevagissey in mid-Cornwall.
Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland were expected to bear the brunt of the latest icy front, with up to 15 inches of snow forecast.
BBC forecaster Louise Lear said the miserable conditions were set to stick around for a few days.
“A weather front will push further north and east,” she said. “It bumps into the colder air causing strong winds and heavy snow.
“The snow will be blown around by the strong south-easterly winds creating blizzard-like conditions to higher ground.”
