T.J. Ward: Denver Broncos can be "best defense of all time"

DENVER, July 20 (UPI) — Key losses could have decimated Denver’s dominant defense, but T.J. Ward and the Super Bowl 50 MVP say otherwise.

“There is no ceiling,” Ward told The Denver Post. “We can be as good as we want to be. We can become the best defense of all time. That’s what we’re working toward.”

The safety’s confidence is somewhat surprising, considering the loss of starters Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan. The Broncos also lost several backups. But the defense still sports some stellar secondary stars in Chris Harris, Aqib Talib, and Bradley Roby. Shane Ray is expected to step up to check in for Pro Bowl veteran DeMarcus Ware when he needs rest.

The Broncos were tops in the NFL in total defense and sacks last season.

Miller signed a six-year, $114.5 million contract with $70 million guaranteed last week. After the signing, Miller insured Broncos fans that he would be there “for life.”

“It’s been a great 5 years, here’s to 6 more amazing years! Thanks Bronco Nation, I love you and I appreciate you,” Miller wrote on Twitter.

Ward is a free agent in 2018.
