Privacy Concerns Win Out Over Full Body Airport Scanners

In a bid for greater privacy, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has ended the use of Rapiscan full body scanners at airports.

The scanners were a point of contention because of the detailed depiction they provided of private body parts.

Now, they are being replaced with new scanners that still look at the whole body, but only focus in on points where an “anomaly” is detected. These new scanners will also blur out private parts if the anomaly appears near them. 

The TSA has already started moving the Rapiscan scanners out of airports across the country.

They plan to store the scanners at warehouses where they can be retrieved for use by other federal agencies in the future.
