Senator Claire McCaskill remains the Senate’s most vulnerable Democrat, according to multiple pundits. President Donald Trump won Missouri by a large margin, and Sen. Roy Blunt also won the state handily.
In a recent Morning Consult poll, Sen. Claire McCaskill ranks as one of the least popular senators in the country.
President Donald Trump won Missouri with 57 percent of the vote and Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) won reelection as well.
Breitbart News reported that McCaskill said that she “respects” President Donald Trump’s voters, despite her repeated attempts to derail his agenda. McCaskill once called Trump a “buffoon,” and even claimed that “Trump and his friend Putin are the founders of ISIS.”
Incredibly, Senator McCaskill claimed that she could support a single-payer health care system. A recent Urban Institute study suggested that a single-payer health care system could cost $32 trillion over the next ten years.
Club for Growth, the conservative activist group, recently raised $10 million for Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley to run against Claire McCaskill. The Missouri Democratic party proceeded to attack Hawley, claiming that he remains bought by Washington special interests.
Majority Forward, the super PAC that supports Senate Democrats and aligns itself with Chuck Schumer, recently spent $500,000 on radio ads to support Claire McCaskill.
Scott Sloofman, the rapid response director for America Rising, said that he wanted to point out the hypocrisy behind Democrats’ charge of “dark money.”
“Certainly McCaskill should be held to the same standard as the governor,” said Sloofman. “If she’s going to blast dark money one week and benefit from it the next, without saying a word, that’s news.”
Claire McCaskill has long entrenched herself in the Washington, D.C. In 2014, Claire McCaskill bought one of the priciest condominiums at CityCenter in the District of Columbia for $2.7 million. The Washington Post recently described CityCenter as “one of Washington’s poshest addresses” that represents “the new ideal for sophisticated, modern, urban living.”
McCaskill serves as one of the four Democratic senators that Republicans have targeted for reelection. McCaskill has endured tight races in the past. Recently, both Kyle Kondik of the University of Virgina’s Center for Politics and Eric Bradner of CNN labeled McCaskill the most vulnerable Senate Democrat for the 2018 midterm elections.
Kondik said, “McCaskill probably is the most vulnerable Senate Democrat both because of Missouri’s turn to the right over the past decade or so and a decent chance that she’ll have a strong challenger, likely state Attorney General Josh Hawley.”
“Claire McCaskill has spent the last decade voting with D.C. liberals rather than the interests and values of Missouri,” said Jeremy Adler, spokesman for Missouri Rising Action. “It’s no surprise that she has now been labeled as the nation’s most vulnerable Senate Democrat because it’s clear that she has lost touch with the state.”
