Clyburn on Others Stepping Aside Faster Than Conyers: ‘Who Elected Them?’

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Representative James Clyburn (D-SC) responded to a question on Representative John Conyers (D-MI) refusing to step aside with the quickness that others accused of sexual misconduct have by saying, “Who elected them?”

One of the reporters asked about “Other men in other industries” who faced similar accusations and resigned “far faster” than Conyers has.

Representative Cedric Richmond (D-LA), who was with Clyburn, asked for examples. The reporters present cited Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, and Matt Lauer.

Clyburn responded, “Who elected them?”

Another reporter asked Clyburn, as the door to the elevator Clyburn was on closed, “So, it’s different because he was elected?” Clyburn didn’t answer.
