Trade Deal with Europe Cover for Global Warming Agenda

When the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal all have front-page stories about global warming, you know something’s up. That’s what happened Wednesday, and it smells as if the Obama Administration is gearing up for a major push vis-à-vis global warming.

Now just why would this be happening now? One obvious reason is that newly reelected Barack Obama is a leftist ready to run amok. Every single leftist goal is now going to be ruthlessly pursued with no thought of dialogue, simply an all-out thug-bully attack. Another salient factor is that the Kyoto Protocol, which stated its goal was to force industrialized countries to reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases, expired in 2012.

What tactic could the Obama Administration use to forward a strong global warming agenda? It just so happens that they are discussing a free trade deal with Europe that can incorporate elements of a global warming agenda within it, and it is being pushed from the other side of the Atlantic. A piece in the Financial Times from London argues that a trade deal would integrate the economies of Europe and the U.S. and act as a bulwark against growing encroachment by China, which doesn’t exactly play by the rules. The article also asserted that the deal would strengthen UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s presence in the EU community. The author says “regulatory harmonization” can wait for now, mutual recognition comes first.

“Regulatory harmonization” is code for you-know-what. And you’ve got to believe that although the powers that be say they will table discussion of environmental restrictions until there is “mutual recognition” the delay will amount to a nanosecond once the initial step is accomplished.

This desire for a trade deal comes as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration came out today with its report stating that temperatures in the contiguous United States in 2012 were the highest in more than a century.

This, of course, is inaccurate; as meteorologist Joe Bastardi points out, “If you used the stations used in 1930s — in other words –measured temps today with what we used in 1930s, it is not warmest yr on record.” And the evidence is abundant from numerous sources that global warming across the planet is a myth.

Meanwhile, the Kyoto Protocol has no teeth. In 2011 France, Russia, Japan, and Canada all withdrew because developing countries were not required to make cuts in carbon emissions. This means that only 15% of the world’s emissions are even covered by the Protocol. With its uselessness on display, the Obama administration has to look for other avenues to pursue its environmental agenda and cripple the U.S. economy. Thus, the trade deal with Europe should be guarded against if there’s the slightest whiff of environmental regulation buried in it.
