Oct. 24 (UPI) — Bill Skarsgard returns as Pennywise the Clown in It: Welcome to Derry, premiering Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
Skarsgard, 35, first portrayed the evil entity in the 2017 film It and its 2019 sequel, It Chapter Two, also based on the Stephen King horror novel.
The Swedish actor has starred in several other spooky series and films.
Here are 5 roles beyond the It franchise.
‘Nosferatu’
Skarsgard plays the vampire known as Count Orlock in Robert Eggers’ 2024 film, which was adapted from the 1922 movie of the same name. The earlier film takes its inspiration from the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker.
Orlock is obsessed with Ellen Hutter, a young woman played by Lily-Rose Depp.
Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Ineson also star.
‘The Crow’
The Crow stars Skarsgard and FKA twigs as ill-fated couple Eric and Shelly, who are engaged to be married when they are murdered. The film is a remake of the 1994 feature starring late actor Brandon Lee and is adapted from the comics by James O’Barr.
Eric is revived and seeks to avenge his fiance’s death.
“It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to,” Skarsgard previously said of playing Eric. “He is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before.”
The franchise also includes three other films and a television show.
‘Barbarian’
Zach Cregger’s 2022 horror film explores what happens when an AirBnB stay goes terribly wrong. A double-booking situation introduces strangers Tess (Georgina Campbell) and Keith (Skarsgard).
Tess ends up stuck in the basement, where she uncovers disturbing things.
The film led the domestic box office.
‘Castle Rock’
The psychological-horror series premiered on Hulu in 2018. Skarsgard stars in Season 1 as “The Kid,” a mysterious inmate at Shawshank prison who is discovered to have been kept captive underground for nearly 30 years.
Andre Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn also star.
The show’s setting overlaps with that of many of Stephen King’s other stories and includes references to The Shining and The Green Mile. Season 2 is inspired by King’s novel Misery.
‘Hemlock Grove’
The Netflix series arrived in 2013 and explores life in a former Pennsylvania steel town following a series of murders.
Eli Roth created the show, which ran for three seasons and was adapted from a book penned by Brian McGreevy.
Skarsgard stars as Roman Godfrey, the troubled heir to the wealthy Godfrey estate. The cast also includes Famke Janssen as Olivia Godfrey, the head of the sinister Godfrey Institute, and Dougray Scott as Norman Godfrey, a psychiatrist at Hemlock Acres Hospital.
The show also stars Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell and Freya Tingley.
