Boeing tapped for Super Hornet variant support

May 9 (UPI) — The U.S. Navy has awarded a contract to Boeing for materials in support of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets aircraft.

The deal, which the Department of Defense announced Tuesday, is valued at more than $41.3 million under the terms of a firm-fixed-price advance acquisition contract.

The contract from Naval Air Systems Command enables Boeing to provide long-lead materials for full rate production of 20 F/A-18E and four F/A-18F Super Hornet variants, according to a Defense Department contract announcement.

Work on the contract will occur in St. Louis, Mo., and is expected to be complete in March 2022.

The total cumulative value of the contract will be obligated to Boeing at time of award.

The obligated funds will be allocated from Navy fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement funds, which will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year, the Pentagon said.
