“Born to Barrel Roll,” Powell said, a reference to a popular line from the Star Fox series of video games.
Fox McCloud is an anthropomorphic red fox who is an expert pilot and adventurer. He is the lead character in the Star Fox video game series and leads a team of pilots and mechanics that defend the galaxy.
Fox McCloud has not appeared in previous Super Mario video games, but the characters have crossed paths in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series.
Powell joins a voice cast that also includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi and Brie Larson as Rosalina.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, from returning directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, comes to theaters April 1.
