Oct. 23 (UPI) — Cinco Dedos Peliculas and SuperCloud Studios announced Thursday that the documentary A Modern Art Masterpiece: The Untold Story of Full Metal Jacket has wrapped. They released new photos along with the announcement.

Full Metal Jacket was Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 film about the Vietnam War. Full Metal Jacket star Matthew Modine is one of the producers of the documentary and a co-founder of Cinco Dedos.

Written and directed by Stephen Rigg, A Modern Art Masterpiece utilizes previously unreleased audio recordings by Kubrick in the ’80s. Modine, co-stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Arliss Howard and other crew members also sit down for new interviews.

R. Lee Ermy, who played the drill sergeant in basic training, died in 2018.

Full Metal Jacket is told in two parts. First, in basic training, Sgt. Hartman (Ermy) names Modine’s character Pvt. Joker and D’Onofrio’s Pvt. Pyle after Gomer Pyle. The second part follows Joker embedded with troops for the Stars and Stripes.

It was Kubrick’s penultimate film. He only made Eyes Wide Shut before his death in 1999.
