Nov. 6 (UPI) — A North Carolina woman learned the value of persistence when playing the same set of lottery numbers for six years resulted in her finally winning a $154,168 jackpot.
Hope Mills resident Barbara Munford told North Carolina Education Lottery officials she selected a set of numbers for a Cash 5 drawing six years ago and has been using them ever since.
“My sister convinced me to keep playing those same numbers,” Munford said. “She told me I was going to win one day.”
Her sister’s prediction came true Monday when a $1 ticket Munford bought from the Lucky Stop on Legion Road in Hope Mills scored a $154,168 jackpot.
“I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s me, that’s me, I won,'” Munford recalled of when she checked the winning digits. “I was so excited.”
She said her surprise brought on a flood of emotion.
“I was in the living room crying,” she said.
Munford said her winnings will go toward paying bills.
“I love the Cash 5 now,” Munford said.
