Poll: Americans Not Worried About Immigration, Gun Control

The latest poll from Gallup, taken April 4-7, shows that while President Obama and his allies in Congress may think that American minds are focused, laserlike, on gun control and immigration, the truth is precisely the opposite: in listing their priorities, Americans place gun control and immigration well down on their list. The economy finishes number one on Americans’ priority list, with 24 percent of Americans calling it their top priority; number two is unemployment/jobs, with 18 percent. In all, adding together Americans who priorities the economy, unemployment, lack of money, and taxes, 48 percent of Americans put financial priorities at the top of their list.

Next comes dissatisfaction with government (16 percent), followed by the federal budget deficit and debt (11 percent). Healthcare (6 percent) and moral decline (5 percent) finish above both illegal immigration (4 percent) and gun control (4 percent) in terms of American prioritization.

Yet the Obama administration continues to focus myopically on gun control and immigration reform. Could that be because the administration’s record has been so terrible on the economy that it needs to focus its efforts elsewhere to demonize its political opposition?
