During a town hall in Midland, Michigan, on Saturday Democrat Senate candidate Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed (aka Abdul El-Sayed) said the Second Amendment boils down to protecting “equal rights to a musket.”
The National Desk published video of El-Sayed’s town hall, in which he said, “Conservative folks, they hew to this idea called ‘originalism,’ and ‘originalism’ is the idea that you should interpret the constitution in the context in which the constitution was written. When they promised the right to bear arms they had muskets, so, yes, everyone should have…equal rights to a musket.”
He did not mention that when the First Amendment protections on free speech were ratified everyone was writing with quill pens and there was no such thing as texting, emails, social media, or YouTube. However, the video of his town hall is being pushed out to the world with everything but quill pens.
Nevertheless, El-Sayed was not done. He continued to go after firearms: “…The question we need to be asking is, are there some guns that are built just to kill as many people as possible and do we really think that those guns ought to be publicly available?”
He then alluded to more red flag restrictions and making sure guns cannot be “in schools.”
El-Sayed added, “Perhaps, it’s more important for us to secure our kids more than it is to secure our guns.”
Breitbart News reported that police indicated a “bystander” killed the Silver Rail Elementary School attacker on Thursday. That “bystander,” later identified as Kaylub Giamanco, the father of two daughters who attend the school, terminated the attacker by entering the school with his concealed carry pistol, cornering the attacker, and shooting him dead.
