State Dept: America Only One of Many in 'Global Coalition' Against ISIS

Friday at the State Department press briefing, deputy spokesperson Marie Harf said America will not necessarily lead or even decide who can join the coalition currently being formed by the Obama administration to fight ISIS.

Harf said, “This isn’t about a U.S. coalition this is about a global coalition.”

When asked specifically if Iran or Russia will be apart of the coalition Harf replied, “We believe that all countries, regardless of their differences, should work together towards the goal of degrading and ultimately defeating ISIS. This isn’t about a U.S. coalition this is about a global coalition and we think all countries should work towards that goal. Now who will we work with as the United Sates?, that’s a different question.”

When pressed on Iran’s potential involvement Harf asserted, “Well, We are not going to coordinate military action or share intelligence with Iran,” but since ISIS is a threat to them she added “we believe all countries” should work towards the goal of defeating ISIS.
