Krauthammer on Christie: ‘His Moment Was Four Years Ago’

On Tuesday’s “Special Report” on the Fox News Channel, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer reacted to the announcement from Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) earlier in the day that he would be seeking the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

According to Krauthammer, Christie was not running on his policies, but his personality and missed his window of opportunity to be the GOP nominee.

“You know with some candidates — perhaps all politicians, there is always a moment and I think — who knows, he jump out of the pack and win the nomination,” Krauthammer said. “It’s extremely improbable. But his moment was four years ago when he was fresh, brash, it was just something about him. He was, you know, the candidate everybody wanted – the anti-Mitt Romney. He decided he wanted to wait. And not the buzz is gone. The excitement is gone. And we’ve seen a few moments of that raw personality. I mean his only hope is to run on entitlements, to run as the guy that speaks the truth. It’s a long shot. His ideological space has been taken by Jeb Bush … and [Ohio Gov. John] Kaisch. So it’s a hard lane that he is running in. He’s a long shot but it’s hard not to like the guy.”
