On Monday, Sgt. Penny Dane of the Daytona Beach Police Department was forced to resign after the department discovered that she had spent shift time posting naked pictures of herself online. The officer was uploading the pictures to “Red Light Center,” an online destination meant to imitate the Amsterdam Red Light district.
This didn’t become an issue until Dane accused a coworker of sexual harassment, necessitating an investigation, with her emails reviewed. Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said that the pictures were “extremely pornographic in nature, and in several of the photos that we have since discovered, she was in her uniform. It’s something in my 26 years of law enforcement that I’ve never seen.”
According to the authorities, Dane had been taking pictures of this sort for the last four years, and had almost 300 pictures total. She used city computers for the uploads.
