Viacom To Cut Don Rickles' Obama Joke

Viacom To Cut Don Rickles' Obama Joke

Through a representative, Don Rickles’ is saying this is a non-story

“He is not being censored,” Rickles’ rep tells THR. “Before all of this started, we knew Don’s spot would be cut a bit for time, as would others, including possibly Shirley herself since the show ran over and we knew it was likely that might be edited. This is a non-story and requires no further comment.”

…But the fact that an 86 year-old legend who became a legend through the playful, genius, and good-natured ribbing of everyone’s heritage is in the news for doing exactly that, is a story.

I would also argue that being cut for time is expected, but that doesn’t mean that what is chosen to be cut  isn’t noteworthy.

While this country has made huge strides when it comes to sexualizing children, degrading women, and normalizing every deviant and destructive behavior out there, in the arena of satire we’re now in Orwellville.

If you read the full story, you’ll see that Rickles is getting a pass because he’s nearing a hundred and part of another generation — which is heartbreaking. That means when we lose Rickles, his brand of humor is dead — killed by oppressive tolerance and PC-fascism.

How great would it be if our “post-racial” President were to come to Rickles’ defense or if Viacom employees Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert pushed back some?

That will never happen as they are all part of the problem.
