Israel Claims to Have Arrested Iranian Spy Carrying Photos of US Embassy

On September 29 Israel’s Shin Bet security service announced the arrest of an Iranian spy allegedly carrying photos of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.

The alleged spy was arrested on September 11, carrying a Belgian passport.

According to Business Insider, the alleged spy had been operating under the name Alex Mans, but his real name is Ali Mansouri. He is part of a “special operations unit of the Revolutionary Guards responsible for numerous terrorist attacks around the world.”

Under questioning Shin Bet says Mansouri confessed to being offered “$1 million to use his position as a businessman to set up companies in Israel on behalf of Iranian intelligence services.”

Mansouri “previously visited Israel in July of 2012 and [in] January [2013].” He appears to have secured his Belgium passport through a marriage to a Belgian woman in 2006.
